We strive to develop long lasting relationships and strong communication with everyone who walks through our doors.
Our regular appointments are scheduled for 30 minutes so that we take the time to thoroughly address all your questions and concerns.
Dr. Kate Washabaugh*, Owner
Dr. Washabaugh earned her DVM from the University of Wisconsin in 2007 after many pre-vet years working at the practice. Outside of work she has fun biking, and any other outdoor adventure, with her children and Max the dog.
Dr. Karen Vanderloo, Owner
Dr. Vanderloo earned her veterinary degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has been part of the practice since 2017. At home, she’s kept busy by her family, three energetic dogs, four chickens, and a little fish tank. She's also a year-round medic/patroller on the ski slopes and for bike races.
Katie Tschanz, Certified Veterinary Technician
Katie joined A Breed Apart in 2007. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family in the outdoors, swimming, and gardening. Her two Labradors Daisy and Maggie keep her busy, along with her three fish Shredder, Crocky, and Jimmy.
Chris Evers*, Certified Veterinary Technician
Chris joined A Breed Apart in 2005. She enjoys time with her family and friends and building lasting memories with her kids and her husband. They share their home with Jack the Cat and their French Bulldog mix, Stella.
Julie Shrader, Certified Veterinary Technician
Julie joined ABA in 2015 after earning her Veterinary Technology degree at Globe University in 2014. She and her husband share a rural home and property with 1 dog, 3 cats, a mini horse, and 2 Nigerian dwarf goats. She enjoys the hunt for vintage treasures, working and creating with her hands, flower gardening, and being outdoors.
Hannah Close, soon to be CVT
Hannah joined in 2023 after graduating from Madison Area Technical College with her degree as a Veterinary Technician. She spends her time outdoors, with friends, reading, or managing her Australian Shepherd, Cedar, and two orange cats, Cassia & Koa.
Elizabeth (Liz) Lohmeier, Front Desk Manager
Liz first joined the clinic in 2019 and returned to our team after a few years out of state. She is currently pursuing veterinary school and enjoys working and learning alongside the ABAAH team. Outside the clinic, Liz enjoys spending time with her husband and their lively little "zoo", enjoying the outdoors, or relaxing with a good book.
Holli Kirchner, Veterinary Receptionist
Holli joined our staff in 2024. She comes to us with past veterinary experience and is excited to be back in the vet field. When she isn't at the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Percy the dog, and Claude the orange cat.
Chandler Spencer, Veterinary Receptionist and Back Office Manager
Chandler joined our clinic in 2020. After a brief stint in North Carolina, she returned to A Breed Apart as our Back Office Manager! She enjoys spending her time at the gym, reading, and tending her suburban homestead with her husband, backyard chickens, Norman the dog, and 3 cats!
